Utopia and Utopias

By Edoardo Rospo

"A new chaos may occur together with a possible European feudalization ... Spiritually our time looks like the Hellenistic period which was full of universalism and syncretism ... An immense melancholy will pervade the humanity (together with) signs of advent of a new era ... it's only Christianity that reveals and preserves the idea of man... however a spiritual regeneration ... as a final revelation of the image of Christ may arise... Perhaps this Renaissance will appear in the catacombs available only for few people..." (N. Berdyaev - A New Middle Age)

Over the last centuries the utopia shadow had covered the whole world with the aim to renovate society: a new golden age politically correct. The effect of this project is still deep around many nations.

Utopists simulated Church methodology to "improve" society and re-distribute richness and "fraternity". The result will generate confusion and poverty across the world.

Looking at the interpretation of the desired civilization, their view is mainly a neo-Gnostic proposal to reshape the Christianity to look to the world instead to the Heaven. They also focused over an axiological perspective with a strong mystical activism suppressing, at the same time, alternatives.

The idea of purification of the society through the culture is collapsed in the post-modern world. However, while remaining the sole and ultimate power, the utopian spirit, remains threatening and aggressive in the human scene.

Such primacy of ideology of being represented through an ambiguous "transcendent project", reduced the concept of inerrancy by using the "dialogue" as a purification act to separate out truth from falsehood.

The opposition between secularism and pragmatism is a repetition of the conflict involving Mensheviks and Bolsheviks.

Moreover the concept of vagueness is crucial to encourage people to contribute to the constitution of an "alternative" society. The "mass culture" has created the basis for not educating people, but for listing them a sequence of instructions with the ambition of building a new "Sun City." The utopian thinking has been reformulated into new ideologies. Relativism of ideas demonstrates that an absolute truth is impossible (with hidden intention to remove God from men belief).

The prophetic approach is moving with determination moving up to the political pragmatism. Socialism, in fact, has never tolerated Jacobin excesses; cultural hegemony should always be submitted to the political perspective, which does not admit other than loyalty and discipline. The extremism may be used in particular situations where is necessary to claim for a "democratic danger".

Moreover, as a support of the utopian world, a number of pseudo-proposals are introduced: the "Weak Thought", the neo-Illuminist theories, the Solidarism, the Environmentalism, the New Age and many other amenities in order to increasingly confuse society and remove the organic and traditional ethic that has been millenarian basis of Western Christian Civilization.
